Volanteer/intern placements

During the summer months we offer volanteers the opportunity to join our team as a live-in helper and to sample our way of life, helping with domestic chores, maintenance as well as moving cattle and helping with our holiday business.
Our summer season is from 12th April – 4th Oct
Placements are for 4 – 5 weeks.

We have quite strict requirements and priorities.
Horse care is a minor part of the duties required, there is a lot of domestic work, cleaning, room changeover, property maintenance, tack cleaning, guest hospitality etc. The reward is the opprotunity to ride with us and sample our fantastic way of life.

If you do not fit all of the criteria below, please do not apply.

UK resident, due to UK immigration rules since Brexit.

25 yo+

Must be a competent rider, English or western, and experience of riding different horses. If we feel an intern is not of the required standard they will not be permitted to ride.

Prior experience as a trail guide

Western riding experience will be a bonus.

Successful volunteers are often asked to come back for short periods on an employed basis.

Provided the intern is a competent rider, they will ride on the majority of trips.

Should a paid position become available, priority will be offered to previous interns.

Duties to include:

Domestic chores

Guest hospitality

Horse care and preperation (grooming, tacking up etc)

Tack care and cleaning

Property maintenance

Essential requirements:

Must be capable of mounting a heavy western saddle onto a horse (important)

Must have a good work ethic and be a team player

Must keep a clean tidy work area.

Enthusiastic and keen to get stuck in and help, see what needs doing without prompting

Good at conversing with guests and clients (important)

Clean driving license is a bonus

n.b. Interns are here to assist with running our very popular riding holidays, it is not a free holiday, we do not want to feel we have another guest!

Accomodation and remuneration:

Accommadation is in our superb cosy  wood cabin with log burner, kitchen facilities, etc, use of washing machine, use of  shower, bathroom etc.
Electric, logs, gas etc included.
Food is not included. We can take you to local supermarkets or farm shops.
